Interior design is the user interface of the built environment and we all encounter it every time we step inside a building. The functionality, appearance and experience delivered by every building is determined by the success of its design. In our view, the best buildings weave together the human experience (materiality, textures, finishes, lighting and ambiance of a space) with the architecture (space planning, volume, external appearance, regulations, coordination of structure and services) and it is crucial to consider both of these aspects concurrently.
Inclume are registered with the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), the UK’s professional institute for interior designers. We are a Cambridge based design studio offering bespoke architecture and contemporary interior design services for private residential properties, commercial buildings and developers. Our passionate team combines architects with interior designers, providing an understanding of how architecture and interior design can work harmoniously together.
We aim to understand how clients occupy a building and combine this with their needs, desires and aspirations, identifying how the built environment can be improved. Our innate understanding of the existing architectural context, combined with our knowledge of construction and materials allows us to balance the demands of contemporary living with the challenges presented by historic buildings.
We aim to make a positive and lasting contribution to the quality of our client’s lives through our creative work, and combining architecture with interior design and project management allows complete control over the aesthetics and process. We enjoy renovating and restoring both modern and historic spaces and if desired, can design bespoke furniture and shelving to create modular and dynamic spaces. Combined with our experience of lighting design, we aim to consider all aspects of a project to create beautifully crafted buildings. We are interested in how a space will feel to use and inhabit, alongside the aesthetic appearance.
